Finding Wilderness in Rishikesh

I think I have come to love the monsoon season in India. It's mesmerizing the way rains paint the mountains and provide relief to people like me. Cool breeze, drizzling nights, smell of earth after rain. All this brings me closer to the mountains in the rainy season.

Beginning of our Adventure Trip:

From Delhi to Rrishikesh

My journey started out with a road trip to the mountains. We began from Delhi crossing Roorkee to Haridwar then to Dehradun and from there to Mussorrie, in the end we reached Rishikesh in the night. We kept driving to discover the perfect area to end our day till it became darkish.

1. Starting from Dehradun: In pursuit of a adventure

Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, is noted for its picturesque landscape and slightly milder climate. We kept driving, taking small halts till we reached Haridwar.

Places to Visit:

a. Guptaji Chaat

While travelling from Haridwar we came across this amazing Chaat shop, I would recommend everyone, if you are in Haridwar visit Guptaji Chaat for some mouth watering experience.

b. Har ki Pauri Ghat

Haridwar offered us serenity at Har ki Pauri ghat, we sat there and relaxed with Ganges by the side. A center of attraction among devotees in Haridwar, Ganga Aarti takes place in the Brahmakund area of Har ki Pauri, a sacred spot where it is believed that the nectar (Amrit) fell on earth.

2. Rishikesh: Finding Solace in the wilderness

We came across this beautiful location in the outskirts of Rishikesh while we were struggling to find accommodations in Rishikesh.

Near the Bungee jumping spot in Rishikesh we found a route to trek down for 3kms in between the jungle and came across this beautiful wilderness in the underbelly of Rishikesh. With crystal clear water and least human interference, you can be one with the nature and enjoy your own company for a change.

Early in the morning while we were getting ready to go back I came across peacocks outside our tent. Monsoon brings peacocks out and I was lucky to witness them dancing at a very close distance.

Go Local with your food

While you are in Rishikesh you have plenty of options to fill your belly but I suggest trying out the local cuisines of Uttarakhand, they are delicious and pocket friendly.

Travel Tips:

a. E-passes are mandatory to travel by road post-pandemic.

b. Post coronavirus outbreak RTPCR Report for everyone is mandatory.

All lovely things will have an ending:

Mohit might have had his experience of wilderness but you might want to pack your bags and leave for Uttrakhand. What are you waiting for? It has been long since you have been one with nature.

Quick Travel Tips:

a. Avoid trekking at night, as the road trail goes through the jungle so you might find wild animals at night.

b. Avoid alcohol while you are at the camp side, close to the river there are chances of accident so avoid partying with your friends.

c. Carry snacks as there are hardly any shops near the Bungee jumping spot and afterwards.

d. Remember to carry a torch and set of batteries when exploring wilderness.

India is moving towards a serious mental health crises

I ndia saw the biggest pandemic in history, when - on 25th March - its 1.3 billion citizens battened down in an attempt to flatten the COVID-19 curve. The unlock now may have started - a new epidemic is now emerging. According to a survey conducted by the Indian Psychiatry Society, within a week of the start of the lockdown, the number of reported cases of mental illness in India had risen by 20%. (As per records almost 7.5% of population is mentally affected as of 2019) In coming months ahead, India will suffer from a massive mental health crisis due to unemployment, alcohol abuse, economic hardship, domestic violence and indebtedness. While this will affect most of the population it will harshly affect the poor, most vulnerable and marginalized groups. India’s already overburdened mental health machinery will be unable to handle this forthcoming situation, and will need to leverage the power of communities with self devised solutions. Here are three: Awareness The gamut of informatio...

RK/RKAY - A Fresh Take on Indian Meta Comedy

RK/RKAY is an enjoyable and whimsical film that is a homage and wistful tribute to the meta world it inhabits RK/RKay is an absurdist film within a film which follows a filmmaker and his fictional runaway hero. Writer-director Rajat Kapoor's latest film is a fresh narrative for the Indian Comic films, a crowd-funded film within a film that explores a creator's existential crisis.  The opening scene is set in a blue-walled corridor with identical doors on either side. This door is constantly being entered and exited by a man named RK, wearing a brown suit and hat, with a blue suitcase. Then, this man's duplicates carry out the identical action. As doors open and close, the peppy music gives off a French comedy mood. An independent, unsuccessful filmmaker named RK (Rajat Kapoor) is experiencing a crisis of faith when he realises that the retro romantic drama he has written, directed and starred in might be flawed. The producer Goel (Manurishi Chadha), a builder backing his m...
